Bare Face Bald Head

Updated: Mar 7, 2022

Why is it that any time a woman makes a decision

regarding her looks, is it seen as a statement?

It can never just be a personal choice or preference —

it’s a shaved head to symbolize sexuality

or a lack of makeup to rebel against beauty standards.

Well, I’m here to take that power back,

and to say that my bare face and bald head

is not making a statement.

I’m not low maintenance

because I save full faces

for special occasions.

I’m not a tomboy either — I enjoy dresses,

skirts, and accessories as much as the next girl

though they’re not always my first choice.

I practice a thorough skincare routine every morning

because I do care

about my looks, but my strong suit is serums

and facials not concealers or primers.

I did not shave my hair off because it was

unmanageable or to state my preference in who I date.

Am I attracted to women? Yes.

Is it because I shaved my head? No.

I was attracted to women when I had a 22 inch sew-in,

when I had crochet braids,

and when I rocked my hair in its natural state.

I owe nobody an explanation on the choices

I make. It is nobody else’s

face, hair, or fucking business.

Ask yourself why you project your stereotypes

on women just trying to figure out their appearance.

Women, allin general, are more

than the physical appearances they present to each other.

This is just a body, a vessel if you will.

A way for people like me to understand ourselves

through hair, makeup, or even how we dress.

Let women be women.

Trans women,

Non-binary women,

cis women — all women.

Let them be.
